Anan Creek is an ancient Tlingit native fishing
site. Anan Creek has the largest pink
salmon run in Southeast Alaska. When
the salmon runs to spawn up the creek you can find black and brown (Grizzly)
bears fishing and gorging themselves with salmon brain and roe. The Bald Eagles and Ravens position
themselves downstream for a feast of salmon carcasses that float down the creek to them. Watching the bears was an amazing thing, each
bear has a different technique, some more skilled than others. On
our walk back to the dinghy I encountered a bear on the trail he was within 20
feet of me headed down toward the creek, we both kept on going. I Kept Calm & we Sailed On....
This is MR SNORKLE his technique is to keep his head under water looking for salmon |
