New Caledonia- Le Parc Provincial de La Riviere Bleue

In contrast to many Pacific islands, New Caledonia Grande Terre was not created by volcanic activity. Rather it was part of Gondwanaland. Grande Terre and New Zealand broke away from eastern Australia about 140 million years ago and, 80 million years later, Grande Terre went its own way. It forms part of the Pacific Ring of Fire and is prone to earthquakes and tsunamis.

  1. how exciting to be walking around and see a pitcher plant growing - that's so unique. And especially love the primeval ferns! Definitely similar to Australia plants - very interesting.
