Both Gary and I love the movie, Forrest Gump. So, we decided to get into the shrimping
business, without the business part, just shrimping.
In preparation for our catch, I stocked up with the ingredients
for making homemade cocktail sauce (ketchup, horseradish & lemon) and researched
lots of shrimp recipes. Let’s just say
we were like Forrest Gump shrimping before the hurricane. We pulled up small
little creatures (not shrimp); a starfish (not shrimp), 4 shrimp!!, 4 Shrimp plus
a Red Pacific Octopus that gorged on at least 6 of our shrimps (we found the
heads in the net). These Ameri-CAN’s did not give up, we went through two
traps/lines to keep on shrimping. Since
we are a sailing boat, not a fishing boat, dropping and retrieving the net is a
manual process, all 600 foot of line pulled in by hand. We finally got our largest bounty two and a
half pounds of Alaskan Spot Shrimp.

These fellas, are large |

Shrimping short term definitely is not an economical plan |

Well feed Pacific Red Octopus, of course I let this sentient being go |

Starfish = not good eating |

Our first catch, freaky little things they are called Amphidoa, locals call them sea lice. The glass jar pictured above had our bait in it, it is full of Amphidoa feasting on the shrimp kibble |
