USA- Alaska- Glacier Bay

We met PUP-PUP a baby harbor seal while we were slowly sailing away from a glacier. PUP-PUP kept popping up to check us out, we suspected he wanted to jump up on our dive platform.  This baby was so cute, I wanted him to join us. Harbor Seals nurse for only 1 month and then they are on their own.   He kept swimming after us, my heart was aching for this little guy, I was hoping he would stay safe and find an iceberg to rest on.

Harbor seals' eyes are adapted for seeing shades of black and white. Color vision is believed to be poor to non-existent.

Harbor Seals do not have ear flaps, but have a small hole which is their external pinnae (opening to the ear canal)

Harbor Seals use their sensitive whiskers to detect vibrations such as fish swimming nearby.
