New Zealand- Wanaka - Deer Farm

We toured Queenstown in the morning, it was 93 degrees out so we didn't do the hike I planned.   We spent some time in Wanaka, Queenstowns' sister town which boasts beautiful lake and rivers.

During our visit NZ and AU has suffered extreme abnormal heat waves.   For us Floridians it is like summer with no humidity (PS I like humidity).    It was very dry and hot in Southland.   We drove 3 hours to the West Coast (Tasman Sea) and were greeted with cold weather and rain.   Fortunately I got word that bad weather was on its way to the Glaciers so we did all of our exploring then hunkered down at our Bed and Breakfast in Te Taho, which is actually a Deer Farm.    These deer are raised for their antlers which are processed and sold to China for medicinal benefits.    There are a lot of old deer on this farm, the close  up is one that is long in the tooth, he was bottle fed so he had no qualms with stopping by to say hello.

The bad weather was actually Cycle Fehi which reeked havoc on the South and North Island. We were literally trapped in our  B&B for 2 days waiting for storm to clear and highways to open.  Our ride North was so, somewhat eventful with tons of trees down and one lane open on a 2 lane highway.
